ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Sociology was established in 1964 with the introduction of the subject at the FYBA and SYBA general levels. Subsequently, Sociology Special Courses were introduced in 1968. With the commencement of Sociology at the Post Graduate level in 2006, an important chapter in the growth story of the Department started. Both the BA and MA programmes are based on semester & credit-based system. The Department boasts of students from diverse faiths, regions and economic and linguistic backgrounds. Even this diversity is reflected in the teaching faculty of the Department. The BA and MA programmes in Sociology try to critically reflect on these diversities through appropriate sociological perspectives to make our students grasp the sociological complexities and nuances of social reality. The Department, with skilled teaching faculty, attracts students in large numbers, which stands testimony to the enormous popularity of the subject and the Department. Teachers’ Information Presently (2023-24), there are four staff in the Department- one regular and three Non-Grant.
