Best Practices The Department of English is committed to nurturing socially responsible and culturally aware individuals. Through innovative initiatives, we aim to sensitise our students to societal issues and deepen their understanding of cultural heritage. The two practices demonstrate our dedication to holistic education: Creating Social Awareness and Creating Cultural Awareness. ● Best Practice 1: Creating Social Awareness Best Practice 1: Creating Social Awareness Our department, along with NGOs SAWALI, an orphanage cum school, and MAULI, a home providing treatment, counselling, and rehabilitation support to mentally ill women who have been victims of social violence, organised visits to these establishments. These visits, conducted with undergraduate and postgraduate students alongside faculty members, provide practical exposure to real-world challenges. Students are briefed about the background of these institutions and the purpose they serve towards social welfare. Through interactions with beneficiaries, surveys, group discussions, and interviews, students gain empathy and social responsibility. Success is evident in increased student participation, awareness, and feedback, showcasing our commitment to holistic social education. ● Best Practice 2: Creating Cultural Awareness Our department organises heritage walks and visits to local historical museums to promote experiential learning, cultural appreciation, and historical understanding. Students engage with artefacts and narratives, fostering empathy and a deeper understanding of global interconnectedness. Faculty and students collaborate to shape activities, including debates and storytelling sessions, enriched by insights from experts. Feedback and follow-up activities reinforce learning and encourage critical thinking. Pre- and post-visit surveys, knowledge tests, artefact analysis, and reflection activities measure the impact on social literacy development, providing valuable insights into the effectiveness of experiential learning.
